# Athlete Team Value

Green marks the top quarter of everyone tested on that metric, red the bottom quarter. A dash means we don't have the number yet — usually a missing intake form, sometimes an injury on testing day. Nothing here is estimated, and nobody is ranked on a number we had to guess at.

Already pulling 225 or better, so the deadlift is one heavy set of five every session from week 1.

4 strict pull-ups at bodyweight. The plan is six sets of five all the way through — short sets are easier to finish than long ones while the base is being built. Use a band or a partner early, drop the help as the reps come, and don't add weight this block.

Tested at 90 lb on the goblet squat. The goblet ladder finishes out at 100 lb (2 more sessions, marked g below), then the barbell back squat picks up at 95 lb.

With no barbell squat number to work from, the projected ceiling for this block is estimated at 180 lb — roughly double the goblet weight. Jumps start at 10 lb and taper as the bar gets close to that. If a squat gets ugly or depth goes away before then, repeat the weight instead of adding.

No deadlift on testing day. First session is a coached technique work-up to a heavy set of 5 — that number starts your ladder. Until you're pulling 225 it's 3 sets of 5, and at this stage the reps matter far more than the number.

Tested at 100 lb on the goblet squat, which is the top of that ladder. Barbell back squat starts at 95 lb.

With no barbell squat number to work from, the projected ceiling for this block is estimated at 200 lb — roughly double the goblet weight. Jumps start at 10 lb and taper as the bar gets close to that. If a squat gets ugly or depth goes away before then, repeat the weight instead of adding.

Deadlift stays at 3 sets of 5 for the whole block — you don't reach 225 before retest week, and the extra reps are worth more than the weight right now.

Deadlift tested at 135 lb, which usually means it was a starting or technique weight rather than a true heavy 5. If it moved easily, retest in week 1 and the whole ladder shifts up.

Tested 3 reps at +10 lb — bodyweight alone was too easy. The plan holds that 10 lb and builds the reps up to 3 sets of 5 before the weight climbs.

Deadlift tested at 135 lb, which usually means it was a starting or technique weight rather than a true heavy 5. If it moved easily, retest in week 1 and the whole ladder shifts up.

Tested at 95 lb on the goblet squat. The goblet ladder finishes out at 100 lb (1 more session, marked g below), then the barbell back squat picks up at 95 lb.

With no barbell squat number to work from, the projected ceiling for this block is estimated at 190 lb — roughly double the goblet weight. Jumps start at 10 lb and taper as the bar gets close to that. If a squat gets ugly or depth goes away before then, repeat the weight instead of adding.

Deadlift tested at 115 lb, which usually means it was a starting or technique weight rather than a true heavy 5. If it moved easily, retest in week 1 and the whole ladder shifts up.

Tested at 75 lb on the goblet squat. The goblet ladder finishes out at 100 lb (5 more sessions, marked g below), then the barbell back squat picks up at 95 lb.

The projected ceiling for this block is a deliberately conservative 150 lb, and jumps are 5 lb rather than 10. You are early enough in this that a light, clean block beats a heavy, ugly one — if you blow past this number at retest, good. That is exactly what retest is for.

Benched the empty bar only on testing day, so the ladder starts right there at 45 lb and adds a modest 2.5 every session, capped at 90 for this block. That is on purpose — small jumps you always make beat big ones you miss, and if you're over that number by retest week, brilliant.

No deadlift on testing day. First session is a coached technique work-up to a heavy set of 5 — that number starts your ladder. Until you're pulling 225 it's 3 sets of 5, and at this stage the reps matter far more than the number.

0 strict pull-ups at bodyweight. The plan is six sets of five all the way through — short sets are easier to finish than long ones while the base is being built. Use a band or a partner early, drop the help as the reps come, and don't add weight this block.

5 @ +10 lbs

Tested at 65 lb on the goblet squat. The goblet ladder finishes out at 100 lb (7 more sessions, marked g below), then the barbell back squat picks up at 95 lb.

How the program works

Every number on your page comes from what you actually lifted in the building on testing day. Nothing is guessed. Your starting weight is deliberately lighter than what you tested — roughly 85% — because the whole point is to add weight every single session for as long as possible, and that only works if you start somewhere you can win.

Twice a week, same four lifts

There's no split here and no A day or B day to keep track of. Every session is the same four lifts, in this order — one session with us in the building, one on your own time later in the week, with at least a full day between them.

Every session

  • Squat — 3 sets of 5
  • Pull-ups — see your page
  • Deadlift — 3 sets of 5, 1 set once you pull 225
  • Bench press — 3 sets of 5

The week

  • With us — coached, and where your numbers get logged
  • On your own — same four lifts, second column on your page
  • Rest — at least one full day between the two
  • A third day — only if you've got the access and the recovery

Your page lists two weights per lift per week, separated by a slash. The first is your session with us, the second is your own session.

Deadlift is the one lift where the sets change. Until you're pulling 225, it's 3 sets of 5 — at lighter weights the reps are worth more than the load, and you need the practice holding position. Once the bar hits 225 it drops to one heavy set of five, because past that point a second and third set costs more recovery than it buys. Your page marks which one you're on for every single session, so you never have to work it out.

Why the jumps get smaller

Early on you'll add 10 lbs to the squat and deadlift and 5 to the bench every session. As you close in on what your body can realistically handle this block — we project that at about 12% above what you tested — those jumps shrink to 5, then 2.5. That's not the program slowing down. That's what running out of easy progress looks like, and shrinking the jump is how you keep moving instead of stalling out.

Because you're hitting all four lifts twice a week, every ladder climbs twice a week. That's fast, and it's supposed to be — you're novices, and this is the one stretch of your lifting life where the weight can go up almost every time you touch the bar. It won't last, which is exactly why we're not wasting it.

Week 9 is a deload, and it matters

After eight weeks of adding weight, week 9 drops everything to about 60%. Same lifts, same reps, light bar speed. It feels too easy, and guys skip it. Don't — it's what lets weeks 10 and 11 come back higher than week 8 finished.

Thanksgiving week we test again

Week 12 you retest all four lifts and those numbers build the next block. Come in rested. If a number goes down, that's information, not a failure — it usually means sleep, food, or a missed week, and all three are fixable.

If your squat says goblet

A few of you tested the squat with a dumbbell held at your chest. That's the right call while the pattern is still being coached, but it doesn't convert to a barbell number. You start the back squat with an empty bar and add 10 lbs a session — you'll pass your goblet number quickly, and you'll pass it with better positions.

Eat and sleep like it counts

Linear progression works right up until recovery stops keeping pace. If the weight stops moving for two sessions running, the answer is almost never the program. Look at food and sleep first.

Haven't submitted your intake form?

That form is where your jump testing, velocity and grip numbers come from. If your page shows “not tested” on those, yours is the one we're missing.

Number look wrong?

Tell us before week 1. Your whole block is built off that starting number, so a bad one sends you twelve weeks down the wrong path.
